Four Dozen (Or So) Alien Landscape Acrylic Studies
I have started about 50 small acrylic studies of alien landscapes. They are 8″ X 10″ to 11″ X 14.” They are maybe half done and perhaps half-baked.
My goal with these small studies is to work out different elements of my alien landscapes. I also wanted to do a couple studies of alien landscapes in different universes with a little less dense matter, etc. Similar to the look of some of Gilbert Williams’ paintings. These studies mostly have the ‘background’ elements to them such as mountains. Lastly I will work on and add foreground plants and temples/buildings and maybe a couple aliens/animals.
I also wanted to try out a few different “UFO” like arial craft and galaxies and planets in the sky. I need to work out the look of those that I would like and use in large paintings. From these studies I will do a few large paintings, probably in oils. Some of these studies will be dead ends, others will stand on their own as small paintings that I won’t pursue further.
I will probably spend a few months on these particular studies. It will probably be something I do regularly going forward with my alien landscapes as I will need to continually work out my “alien” plants and animals, and other elements for my paintings. I can’t simply go by photos of alien plants and animals etc. as they are in short supply. I have to make them up as I go.
