JWs And The The Occult

Jehovah of the Pleiades The Society believed that Jehovah was time and space bound being confined to a body located in space. That place was in the Pleiades star cluster, probably around the star Alcyone.

Rutherford’s Angelic Channeling J.F. Rutherford was the Watchtower Society’s second president from about 1916 to 1942. He wrote almost all Watchtower books and Watchtower magazine articles by the 1920’s. He claimed the holy spirit was removed 1918 and replaced by angels who transmitted instructions and Biblical interpretations for his books into his mind inaudibly.

Honest Demons

The Golden Age‘s Review And Endorsement Of Angels And Women The Watchtower Society in two Golden Age magazines endorsed the book Angels And Women. It was an “automatic writing” book “dictated” to Smith by a fallen angel according to the book’s foreword.

Rutherford And The Occult

Dr. Albert Abrams And The E.R.A. This paper looks at the bizarre Electronic Reactions of Abrams (ERA), an occult medical method of diagnosing and curing disease the Watchtower endorsed and numerous JW doctors used from the 1920’s through the 1940’s. After ending their endorsement the Society said the method was psychic and spiritistic in nature.

Roy Goodrich And The ERA Ouija Board Roy Goodrich, a JW, got into a shouting match with the Watchtower’s president J.F. Rutherford over their promotion and use of the ERA. He said it was spiritism as it operated in the same manner as a ouija board. Rutherford, to “shut him up,” had him write an article in The Golden Age on this in 1930. Goodrich was later disfellowshipped after continuing to complain about the matter when he learned it was still used at Bethel headquarters in the 1940s.

Quack Cures And Radionic Ouija Boards In the early 1950s, the Society ended it’s endorsement of the ERA. By the 1960s, they said it was psychic and spiritistic and operated like a glorified ouija board, just like Goodrich claimed.

Medical Quackery

The Watchtower Society And Medical Quackery An introduction to the Watchtower Society’s involvement in medical quackery, mainly in the 20th century.

The Electronic Radio Biola Dr. R.A. Gamble, a Bible Student (JW) invented an ERA device called the Electronic Radio Biola. It both diagnosed and cured diseases automatically. It was sold in the Golden Age magazine for $35 in 1925 so Bible Students could cure their diseases at home.

The Radio Disease Killer: William Hudgings And The RDK Notes on William Hudgings and the Radio Disease Killer (RDK) ERA device he used at an “electronic clinic” in Brooklyn.
